I'd first like to apologize for the delay in posting, a lost has happened since the last post and I'm working on getting it all written together. If there are errors in my writing, or if it doesn't make sense from time to time, please understand that there's been a lot going on over here so bear with me.
12 noon - Wow, epidurals are SWEET! Have you ever seen one? If not, I’ll explain it for you. So, first Paul Anesthesiologist comes in wheeling his cart of goodies. Just to give you an idea of what he looked like, he came in wearing this colorful hippie bandana, a beard and glasses, and his cart was white and pink. Anyway, he’s this super nice guy and was the perfect kind of guy to have stabbing you in the back. During each step of the procedure he explained what he was doing and that really helped both Nykele and I to feel at ease. First, he injects her in the back with this numbing solution and then pulls out this big needle, all the while carrying on a calm conversation with Nykele to keep her at ease. When he stuck the big needle in her back, it reminded me of those orange juice commercials where the person takes that huge straw and jabs it right through the oranges thick skin. Remember those commercials? Anyway, after inserting the big needle, being careful not to puncture the membrane that holds the spinal fluid, he took this little tube and pushed it up through the needle into Nykele’s back. Once the tube was in place he pulled out the metal needle just leaving the rubber tubing in it’s place. Then, he placed an adhesive sponge against the insertion point, placed this protective covering over that and taped the protective covering down. Next, he sprayed this tacky spray up her back making a sticky path from the insertion point up to her shoulder. He took the length of the tube that was outside of Nykele’s back and laid it along the path he’d made which held the tube in place and draped it over her shoulder, then covered that line with tape. By the way, Nykele didn’t even flinch through all of this! After he had everything situated the way he wanted it, he hooked the tube up to the I.V. and started the drip which worked quite quickly making it to where Nykele can’t even feel her contractions anymore. She’ll finally be able to sleep!
